PADI Basic Freediving Course

Freediving is about inward power, discipline and control. If you’ve always wanted to enter the underwater world quietly, on your own terms, staying as long as your breath allows, then freediving is for you. Taking the PADI Basic Freediver course is your first step toward discovering why freediving is becoming a popular way to explore beneath the waves.

The PADI Basic Freediver course consists of two main phases:

  • Knowledge development about freediving principles through independent study with PADI Freediver eLearning
  • Confined water session to learn breathhold techniques as well as static and dynamic apnea. Goal – static apnea of 90 seconds and dynamic apnea of 25 metres/80 feet.

This popular course  is conveniently completed in 1 day. Arrive at the shop on at 9:00 am to start your knowledge review session. In the afternoon, we will do the pool session training. Pool sessions and open water dives can occur any day of the week during store hours.

Price $250.00 plus tax (Available for students 12 years and older).



Who can enroll?

This course is open to divers who are:

  • At least 12 years old.
  • Must know how to float and swim.
  • Able to either answer NO to all questions on the standard Medical History Form or secure a physician’s approval prior to the start of class.

    What is involved?

    This course consists of:

    • Self study
    • One classroom session
    • One pool session

    Where and when do classes take place?

    Self study takes place at the comfort of your home. Classroom session and pool session takes place right here at Squalo Divers. 

    Basic Freediver classes start at any time. Classroom and pool session is done during regular store hours. All activities take place by appointment only.


    What is included in the cost?

    The course fee is $250 and includes:

    • Educational materials
    • All instruction
    • Pool session

    Students are responsible for supplying all of the equipment items listed below, plus: 

    • Transportation to the shop

    What equipment will you need?

    Students are responsible for supplying all of the equipment items listed below:

    • Low volume mask, free diving snorkel and fins +
    • Adequate exposure protection * +
    • Weight belt and weights +

    Using gear designed specifically for freediving is best, however, in this beginner course, you can use snorkeling/scuba equipment you may already own.
